Title of the project:
Psycho-social Rehabilitation of Torture Victims in Hungary
Project period: July 2007 – June 2010
Amount of support: 300 480 EUR
Description of the project:
The core objective of our project is to improve the quality of life of torture victims residing in Hungary in order to regain their health both physically and psychologically. This overall objective is broken down into two intermediary objectives.
1. Improve psycho-social and medical conditions of torture victims through rehabilitation services
The objectives of rehabilitation services are to help torture survivors and their family members to overcome the psychiatric and somatic effects of torture experience and to support our clients’ integration into the host society. This implies:
2. To raise awareness of key stakeholders about the special needs of torture victims
Training and information activities are aimed at raising awareness about the special needs of torture victims including, among other things, their special rights or the international and EU regulations. The training of professional stakeholders involved in the reception process improves the primary beneficiaries’ conditions by providing new methods to identify and treat torture victims. Supervision activities serve to prevent burn out and vicarious traumas of staff members of the reception centres and improve their capacity to treat torture victims.
